Túnsen, derived from Túwenéswen, meaning the people of the west land, is the name of a province in the west of the Thyrosic Empire. Túnsen is often referred to as the Bread Basket of the Empire, and the province lives up to its moniker, supplying the majority of the Empire's foodstuffs. Túnsen is noted for having a bitter divide between the Northern and Southern portions of the province, as the south prodomintally worships Thyrnóc, whilst the north clings on to its ancestor worship.

Etymology[]

Túnsen is derived from Túwenéswen, a corrupted form of the longer Túwensyrownéwen. The components are , which is the neuter, singular definite article, corresponding with English thewen, meaning people (from Tallinoré llin), syrówn, meaning world or region (as in AsyrównAtheryin), and Éwen, which originally meant west before it was absorbed by Eýn. A common spelling of Túnsen is Túnsýr.

Landscape[]

Túnsen is a temperate and fertile province, filled with rolling hills and small valleys. The province retains this characteristic throughout, with the only variation being the presence of the mighty Hýn River in the middle of the province. To the east, the border with Thyressia is indicated by the mighty White Rock, the ruins of a castle constructed in the Growth Era to protect against Thyressian raiders.

The pleasant climate of Túnsen brings its benefits to the entire Empire, as the food grown here is of a noticeably superior quality to that which is grown in the rest of the empire.

Civilisation[]

Túnsen is predominately rural, with no major centres of population to be found in the province, the majority of people are centred in small villages filled with farmers. Occasionally, a trade caravan passes through one of these villages, imparting knowledge of the outside world to the country-folk.

The majority of the Túnsenian countryside is farmland, and the majority of its people are farmers. Occasionally, nobles from Mún and Thyrra may be found living in vast country estates.

Túnsen is also noted as being the site of the Monument of Sin, a vast stone obelisk ordered for construction by King Dúghlas the Pious, of the Kingdom of Thyros.
